I have a good friend in Sajbell, and she told me that all sorts of rumors circulated about Clowes. One rumor had it that he had a horrible row with his wife the night before and ended up sleeping on a cheap plastic recliner on their deck. Another had him up until all hours, drinking about the town, celebrating the birth of his first nephew. Some said he was coming down with the flu (a nasty one this year). No one had confirmation of any of these stories, or the others I heard. Everyone was grasping for some explanation for his complete melt-down in the second half.
