Lack of offense dooms Rijward

Mechen 1, Rijward 0: Rokus Osthav'n made 43 saves last night, but the one he missed counted the most. The only goal scored by either team, it came with 8:36 to go in the third period. Doutze Holwerde, the right wing for Mechen, beat Osthav'n on the upper glove side (left) thanks to Wiebe Kappe screening Osthav'n.

Onatten 3, Gottwrischer 1: Jaska Hiekkalinna, a Finnish acquiry of this offseason, scored two goals and had an assist for Onatten. Hiekkalinna was not a goal-scorer in the Finnish leagues, and so this game made GM Leevi Keisari look like a smart man for taking this gamble and hiring him.

Bjaward 3, Menesanne 1: Wob Ramsbeck did an admirable job in goal yesterday, making 45 saves. Normally 45 saves is enough for a tie at least, but when your defense gives up 48 shots, it's difficult to win. Ramsbeck was bombarded, including 8 shots and two goals by Diederik Eisinga.

Bevinlunz 3, Wrischer 2: Bevinlunz finally found its offense after scoring just one goal in the past two games. Sikke Pfelward was in street clothes on the sidelines, but Gerrit Visser and Eitel Piebinga picked up the slack. Visser had two goals and an assist and Piebinga had a goal and two assists.

Summary

Wooo hooo! The first win for Onatten - with many more to come. I made it to this game, though I'll miss the next few (boats heading out). It was great to hear the crowds cheering for another man from Suomi. One of his cousins married into my family, as a matter of fact, though I've never met either of them. The families are so huge you hardly meet all your own cousins, much less in-laws.
